Donation of medical equipment by the Network of Social Solidarity and Assistance to the “Ippokrateio” General Hospital of Thessaloniki

The Network of Social Solidarity and Assistance has made yet another donation, supporting the work of the Thermaides Organisation regarding the need for specialised medical equipment for the Neurophysiology Laboratory of the Developmental Paediatrics Centre “Apostolos Fokas” of the 1st Paediatric Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Ippokrateio General Hospital of Thessaloniki, providing a state-of-the-art Nihon Kohden EEG-1200 platform.

The Network of Social Solidarity and Assistance, working together with the Thermaides, the Thessaloniki branch of the Panhellenic Organization of Women “Panathinaiki”, co-funded and covered a significant part of the equipment’s cost, contributing to upgrading the medical services for the immediate diagnosis and treatment of serious neurodevelopmental disorders in newborns, infants, children and adolescents.

The handing-over ceremony of the video-EEG platform was held on Thursday, 31 January 2019, in the presence of Olga Tsimiski, President of the Thermaides, Nikolaos Pentzos, President of the Social Solidarity and Aid Network, and Dimitris Zafeiriou, Professor of Child Neurology and Director of the 1st Paediatric Clinic of the Ippokrateio General Hospital.

Nikolaos Pentzos stated that: “The underlying objective of all our actions is to provide practical help to those who are truly in need and to ensure that with the means we have at our disposal we can make their lives, their daily lives, better. Showing solidarity is not a given. It is a joy to be able to join forces, to broaden our embrace, welcoming people who love and give and who have learned to listen, and to respond with warmth and goodness to the needs of our fellow human beings. The Thermaides show their solidarity in action and do valuable work. The same is true for the people, the nursing and medical staff, of the 1st Paediatric Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki at the Ippokrateio General Hospital of Thessaloniki. It is important that we remain active listeners and attend to the needs of the people next us. Since our Network was founded this has been our major priority: to be at the side of those who need us.”
